DIVIDED WE STAND

Braschler Fischer

When Donald Trump was elected the 45th President of the United States, the internationally renowned and award-winning Swiss photography duo Mathias Braschler and Monika Fischer were living in New York.

The election results highlighted the deep divide that continues to run through the United States of America and its society to this day. It is a divide that President Trump is unwilling to bridge. On the contrary, with his polemical media campaigns, he is further fueling the divide during his second term. Trump, however, is not the cause of the divide, but rather its consequence.

On a four-month road trip through 40 U.S. states, BraschlerFischer profiled, interviewed, and filmed Americans from all walks of life, thereby revealing, as it were, the inner turmoil of the people and their nation.

At photoSCHWEIZ, we are presenting this outstanding contemporary interpretation of the portrait genre as a special exhibition: DIVIDED WE STAND.

BraschlerFischer also provide a glimpse into their latest work DISPLACED, a UN-supported photo project that documents the stories of people displaced by climate change.
