Near Futures

π Innovation Hub, ETH Zurich | Space presents “Near Futures,” five black-and-white photographs of possible futures. They depict space and environmental technologies that currently exist only as prototypes and late-night discussions in Zurich laboratories. Generated using AI—since we cannot yet travel to the future—the images are free of spectacle and invite us to believe in a tomorrow built of light and shadow, conviction, and silver.

Artist and researcher Marco Tempest worked at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory for eight years before joining ETH Zurich | Space as Director of Creative Technology & Innovation. As a former Director’s Fellow at the MIT Media Lab, he now helps shape the π Innovation Hub—a pipeline for early mission formulation that supports Swiss research on its journey into orbit.
