Another pop-up!
Together with Swissfurniture, we are staging our first-ever pop-up exhibition. For this presentation, Zurich-based artist Douglas Mandry is creating a temporary exhibition space in which his photographic language engages directly with space, architecture, and materiality.
Douglas Mandry works with photography, text, objects, and archival material. In his works, he examines the construction of images, memories, and identities, as well as the ways in which historical, social, and cultural traces become embedded in visual memory. His works often emerge from a precise exploration of places, contexts, and narrative moments that come to light in everyday life.
In the context of Swissfurniture, photography becomes an integral part of the experience of a designed space. Through the interplay of images, materials, and furnishings, the exhibition creates a space for encounter, reflection, and exchange—a quiet yet vibrant dialogue between art, design, and the urban environment.

The pop-up exhibition features works by Douglas Mandry, which are on displayin the Swissfurnitureexhibition space. Mandry, an artist and photographer based in Zurich, works at the intersection of photography, material practice, and archival work. In his works, he explores the relationship between people, culture, and the environment; the interplay of memory, materiality, and spatial perception; and the construction of visual narratives.
The exhibition at Swissfurniture places Mandry’s works in direct dialogue with space, design, and architecture. The deliberate integration of the photographs into the space creates flexible visual and perceptual spaces that invite active engagement. His works offer a focused moment of pause in which meaning becomes tangible through the interplay of image, material, space, and viewer.

Douglas Mandry (born 1989, Geneva) is a Swiss artist and photographer based in Zurich whose work combines photography, material-based practice, installation, and archival work. A graduate of the École cantonale d’art de Lausanne (ECAL) in Visual Communication, Mandry’s practice explores the complex interplay between people, culture, nature, and visual archives. His works often operate at the intersection of art and science, exploring how images and materials convey memories, history, and transformation.
Mandry’s work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions across Europe, including at C/O Berlin, Foam Amsterdam, the Victoria & Albert Museum, Kunst Haus Wien, and the Centre de la Photographie Genève. He has received numerous awards, including the Foam Talent Award (2020) and nominations for the Paul Huf Award andthe Swiss Design Awards. In 2025, his second artist’s book, *A Distant Smell of Dust*, was published and nominated for the Swiss Design Award.
Mandry’s work often explores historical material, environmental changes, and the construction of visual narratives. Through collaborative processes and the alchemical manipulation of materials, he challenges traditional notions of photographic representation and invites the audience to reconsider the relationship between images, memory, context, and time.
